CT scan is short for computerized tomography. A CT scan is a painless, non-invasive imaging technique that uses X-rays to take images of structures inside the body such as bones, blood vessels, and soft tissue. Computers then use the images to create cross-sectional views of these structures. CT scans provide more detailed information than plain X-rays and can be used to visualize nearly any part of the body while completely eliminating the superimposition of images of structures outside the area of interest. CT scans can assist with numerous imaging needs, including but not limited to:
Head
Lungs
Arterial and venous vessels
Cardiac
Abdominal and pelvic
Skeleton and joints
